Enabling the 3D depth described above is PrimeSense Light Coding technology. It works by coding the scene volume with near-IR light — nothing you can see as its invisible to the human eye. The solution then uses a standard off-the-shelf CMOS image sensor to read the coded light back from the scene.

PrimeSense's System on a Chip (SoC) is connected to the CMOS image sensor and executes a sophisticated parallel computational algorithm to decipher the received light coding and depth image of a scene. All this makes PrimeSense solutions unique, precise and immune to ambient light.
